Dr. Tania Urmee
Expert in Renewable Energy and Sustainable Development
Dr. Tania Urmee is a globally recognized expert in renewable energy, with a particular focus on rural electrification and sustainable development. With over two decades of experience across Asia, Africa, and the Pacific, she has made significant contributions to shaping inclusive energy access solutions in countries such as Bangladesh, Fiji, Samoa, Uganda, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
She played a pioneering role in the development of Grameen Shakti’s solar home system program in Bangladesh—one of the world’s most successful models for solar PV-based rural electrification using microfinance. Her work has also supported livelihood enhancement projects and energy-efficient solutions in the built environment and small industries.
Dr. Urmee holds a PhD in Renewable Energy from Murdoch University, Australia, where she currently serves as a Senior Lecturer in the School of Engineering and Information Technology. She also holds a master’s degree in Energy Technology from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand.
Renowned for her interdisciplinary approach, Dr. Urmee integrates technology, policy, and social dimensions in her research and project implementation. She has authored and co-authored over 50 scientific papers and book chapters, advancing the global dialogue on climate change, community engagement, and sustainable energy transitions.
