Dr. Ramesh Sosya
Expert – Energy, Environment, and Climate Change
Dr. Ramesh Sosya is a distinguished expert with more than 23 years of international experience in the fields of energy, environment, and climate change. His work focuses on driving sustainable development through renewable energy innovation, climate finance readiness, and strategic environmental planning. He is globally recognized for his contributions to climate change mitigation and bioenergy, particularly in thermochemical conversion of organic waste.
Dr. Sosya has led and contributed to a wide portfolio of high-impact projects funded by multilateral institutions and development agencies including The World Bank, FAO, IUCN, GIZ, and GOPA. He served as a key technical contributor to the development of GCF Funding Proposal FP124 for IUCN — a $49 million climate adaptation and mitigation project currently under implementation. His ability to align technical innovation with global climate finance mechanisms has made him a sought-after advisor for government ministries and international organizations.
He played a pivotal role in designing the 3rd National GCF Readiness Proposal for Sri Lanka, supporting national capacity building for climate resilience. His leadership in the Wilpattu National Park and Influence Zone Management Project in Sri Lanka, funded by the German government, demonstrated his expertise in nature-based solutions and conservation-linked climate initiatives.
In the private sector, Dr. Sosya collaborated with Korean national research institutes on applied clean technology R&D projects. He contributed to the Tilted Slide Circulating Fluidized Bed Biocrude-oil Reactor Project with KIMM, and to nanotechnology research on composite membranes at KERI, both under South Korean government funding.
As an accomplished researcher, Dr. Sosya has authored peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals and served as a reviewer for Bioresource Technology. He was also an expert reviewer for the IPCC Special Report on the Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate (SROCC) First Order Draft in 2018.
His cross-sectoral experience, from renewable energy systems to environmental policy, positions him as a strategic bridge between technology, research, and policy. He continues to serve as an international bioenergy consultant, providing technical guidance on project preparation, biomass standardization, and clean energy deployment strategies across South and Southeast Asia.
