Mr. Pravakar Pradhan

Expert – Urban Environmental Management and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)

Mr. Pravakar Pradhan is a distinguished expert in the fields of urban environmental management and environmental impact assessment, with over 20 years of experience working at the intersection of research, policy, and practice in Asia. He holds a Master’s degree in Urban Environmental Management from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand, which laid the foundation for his extensive work on urban sustainability, climate change, and environmental governance.

From 2004 to 2013, Mr. Pradhan served as a Research Associate at the School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD) at AIT. During this tenure, he was deeply involved in a wide range of interdisciplinary research activities focusing on urban environmental issues, including land use planning, water resource management, air pollution, and climate change. Notably, he managed and monitored two major “Low Carbon Cities” projects that brought together ten cities from four Asian countries. In these projects, he played a key role in guiding local governments to analyze and report greenhouse gas emissions, providing critical support in developing their low-carbon strategies.

Mr. Pradhan’s passion for education and capacity building also led him to serve as a Research Faculty at the Asian Institute of Technology and Management (AITM) in Nepal, where he taught courses in climate change and environmental impact assessment to undergraduate civil engineering students. His teaching experience reflects his commitment to nurturing the next generation of environmental professionals.

He is also part of Leadership Academy Nepal (LAN), where he leads programmatic efforts aimed at strengthening environmental governance and public sector innovation. In addition, he serves as a Physical Environmental Specialist with the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Review Team at Nepal’s Ministry of Forest and Environment. In this role, he contributes to national-level environmental decision-making, providing technical reviews of development proposals to ensure environmental sustainability and regulatory compliance.

Mr. Pradhan’s career is marked by a deep commitment to integrating environmental science, urban planning, and public policy. His work continues to shape strategies for sustainable urban development, low-carbon transition, and climate-resilient infrastructure in Nepal and the broader South Asian region.
