Dr. Hayat Ullah
Regional Agriculture Expert
Dr. Hayat Ullah is an accomplished agricultural scientist and climate resilience specialist with extensive experience in sustainable agriculture, water and nutrient management, and climate-smart farming systems. He currently serves as the Regional Agriculture Expert at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand, where he leads key agricultural research projects and supervises postgraduate research initiatives across the region.
His work at AIT includes managing regionally significant programs that promote environmentally sustainable agricultural practices. Dr. Ullah previously held the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Food, Agriculture and Bioresources at AIT from 2020 to 2021. During this tenure, he led groundbreaking research under the project titled “Research Support for the Development of Specialized Expert System for Agrometeorological Early Warning for Climate Resilient Agriculture in Pakistan.” This initiative focused on leveraging data-driven tools to help farmers make climate-informed decisions, contributing significantly to adaptation and resilience in vulnerable regions.
Prior to this, he contributed to the “Eco-friendly Water Management for Sustainable Wetland Agriculture in the Greater Mekong Region” project, funded by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). This work involved the development and demonstration of sustainable water practices in sensitive ecosystems across Southeast Asia, including country consultations in Thailand, Vietnam, Lao PDR, and Cambodia, with engagement from local ministries and regional stakeholders.
Dr. Ullah holds a PhD in Agriculture from AIT as an HEC Overseas Scholar and was recognized with prestigious academic honors such as the Most Outstanding Scholar Award and the International Plant Nutrition Institute (IPNI) Award for his doctoral research. His core research interests lie in the area of crop-environment interaction, especially water and nutrient management, and their roles in enhancing agricultural productivity and sustainability under changing climate conditions.
He has authored 33 international research papers and book chapters and is widely acknowledged for his interdisciplinary work that bridges agronomy, horticulture, and weed science. Dr. Ullah has presented his work at multiple international conferences and has also conducted high-impact seminars on scholarly writing and scientific publication at AIT, helping to build the next generation of researchers and agricultural innovators.
Through his academic leadership and practical engagement with regional and international organizations, Dr. Hayat Ullah continues to play a pivotal role in advancing sustainable agriculture and climate resilience in Asia and beyond.
